The Provost and Associate Professor of Biblical History and Geography fulfills the mission of Jerusalem University College—to teach people Scripture and its contexts—by leading educational initiatives, empowering faculty, teaching courses, and publishing research as it relates to the contexts of Scripture. The Provost and Associate Professor of Biblical History and Geography, in collaboration with the President and Director of Programs, will oversee the continued development and implementation of target goals set for JUC's Education Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leading Academic Initiatives
Education Programs:
Oversee curricula development of standards as it concerns alignment with mission, meeting accreditation standards, and maintaining dynamic and rigorous graduate studies.
In collaboration with the Education Committee, identify goals that seek to continue developing JUC's academic programs.
Oversee the continued editing and publishing of the "JUC Field Guide" (formerly "The Bluebook").
Faculty
Serve as a representative voice for Long-Term and Short-Term instructors.
Empower faculty through training, conferences, and course development.
Collaborate with the President to identify new instructors capable of serving and enriching both the Long-Term and Short-Term programs.
Collaborate with the Chairs overseeing the HCL and MECR degree programs to identify ways to continue strengthening academics at JUC through course development and new faculty hires.
Serve as the Chair for both the BHG and HRC degree programs.
Students
Advise M.A. students throughout the BHG and HRC programs, including assisting them in identifying future goals and steps.
Serve as a mentor on campus for students taking Long-Term and/or Short-Term courses at JUC.
Researching and Publishing
Develop and serve as Chief Editor for the online JUC Press.
Invite scholars and students to contribute research.
Develop an editorial board.
Lead and plan out publication of issues.
Engage global scholarship through personal publication.
Travel to, and present, research at SBL/ASOR/ETS and other conferences.
Develop local conference opportunities on JUC's campus.
Identify other media formats for educating students and promoting JUC globally (i.e., podcasts, digital media, etc.).
Educating
Teach 1-2 graduate courses in residence and/or online each semester.
Teach one Short-Term 3-week course annually (offered Jan/May/June).
In collaboration with the Education Committee and Faculty, develop new field study opportunities for student learning in the land.
Education and Training
Earned Ph.D. degree in a field related to historical backgrounds of the Bible
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience teaching Bible and/or history in higher ed
Evidence of leadership skills
Evidence of publications in peer reviewed journals
Knowledge, Skills, and Character
Strong commitment to the Christian faith and discipleship of students
Effective leader able to empower others to serve and participate
Effective communicator in person and through published research
Team player passionate about JUC's vision to educate students about biblical backgrounds
Good awareness of, and ability to work in, Middle Eastern cultures
