Position Summary

The Facility Manager (FM) provides service leadership to Jerusalem University College by actively managing all aspects of the physical plant in Jerusalem, Israel. This includes performing preventative, seasonal, and corrective maintenance; providing oversight of the Food Services Department and Campus Care staff; and purchasing and managing deliveries. Additionally, the FM shall manage all contracted work on capital development projects or ongoing operational services related to the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the JUC facilities to ensure a consistently safe working and living environment on campus that students, staff, and visitors can thrive in. Oversee the work and responsibilities of the Food Service staff, Campus Care staff, student workers, and all associated suppliers and contractors for these areas. Assign responsible coverage for these areas in your absence. This role requires that the FM live on campus and remain on duty 6 days each week and on call 7 days each week should emergencies develop.
  • Food Services
    • Oversee all campus food and dining services including bus lunch provision, delivery, and collection.
    • In coordination with the Food Service Manager or person assigned, work to develop and maintain processes for ordering food and consumables, receiving and properly storing deliveries, cooking and other dining operations, cleaning and sanitizing eating and preparation areas.
    • In coordination with the Food Service Manager or person assigned, ensure local staff are trained, equipped, supported, and committed to performing excellent work.
    • Responsible for food and consumable purchases and the accounting thereof.
  • Campus Care
    • Directly manage all daily and seasonal Campus Care activities, including housekeeping of all spaces, and campus lawn and garden care.
    • Work with the Administrative Office in scheduling for Semester and Short-Term program student housing turnover through each season.
  • M.A. Graduate Student Fellows
    • Manage the student fellows who are part of the JUC Servant Scholar Program.
    • Schedule, plan, assign, and supervise the work for each student worker.
    • Student fellows may be assigned various duties in Campus Care and Food Service.
  • Physical Plant
    • Ensure proper and timely maintenance of building, grounds, and vehicles either by actively doing the work or empowering and hiring others to work accordingly. Assign as necessary in your absence.
    • Manage and monitor all utilities, systems, and fuels including water and sewage, propane gas, diesel, solar, heating, electrical, IT infrastructure, security and safety systems, and waste management.
    • Ensure preventative, seasonal, and regularly scheduled maintenance is performed in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Hire, manage, and oversee local contractors as needed to complete capital campaign building projects on campus.
    • Evaluate and oversee the quality of work done by local contractors to ensure JUC benefits from the highest quality work possible.
    • Oversee contracted gardeners and volunteers keeping JUC grounds beautiful.
  • Development of JUC Facilities
    • In support of the VP of Development, help develop plans and budgets to continue improving and updating JUC campus facilities and operations by offering input into strategic decisions related to the development and management of campus operations and facilities.
    • Develop and implement safety protocols as needed on campus.
    • Provide for responsible means to manage campus operations in your absence.
    • Routinely keep the VP of Development informed and updated about progress and needs.
    • In collaboration with the President and the VP of Business and Institutional Relations, identify areas on campus to invest capital funds (e.g. new exterior windows, dining room furnishings, etc.)
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Management of all costs related to the areas of responsibility, including budgets for facility operations, utilities, Food Service, etc.
    • Be prepared and willing to serve on campus in other areas of campus operations should the need arise.
    • Engage in campus life and relationally connect with students and workers.
    • When Food Service Manager is in the U.S., assign responsible individual(s) to overseeing dining services.
    • Maintain all Operations spaces and resources (including workshops, sheds, tools, equipment, files, etc.) in safe, accessible, and current conditions.

Education and Training

  • Completed B.A. degree in a field related to engineering, business, or leadership
  • Extensive experience overseeing capital building projects
  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience working in non-profits and/or higher education

Knowledge, Skills, and Character

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in all disciplines of building construction and care, including plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical, fuel oil heating systems, propane gas supply systems, heating, and cooling systems, etc.
  • Strong commitment to the Christian faith and willing to disciple students on campus
  • Organized and able to keep multiple projects running concurrently
  • Effective communicator in person and through electronic modes of communication
  • Highly effective manager of people and able to work well with Middle Easterners
  • Team player working cooperatively with all JUC staff to achieve JUC goals
