JUC Students Explore Jerusalem and Strengthen Campus Community
JUC students explore Jerusalem, share campus responsibilities, and strengthen community during the fall semester.

Jerusalem University College students spent a September week exploring the city, preparing campus for a major academic gathering, and participating in community activities alongside their studies.
New and returning students joined walks through West and East Jerusalem to learn more about the city’s neighborhoods, history, and residents. Stops included the Shuk, Mousseline ice cream, the Educational Book Shop, and opportunities to sample treats in the Muslim Quarter.
On campus, students helped prepare the grounds and living spaces for the Ecumenical Theological Research Fraternity’s 60th anniversary symposium. Their work supported JUC’s welcome of scholars and guests from a range of institutions.
The week also included lighter moments, including a presentation by student Kelsey on cleaning bathrooms and an unexpected kitchen freezer failure. When the freezer stopped working after a recent meat delivery, students and staff worked together to move frozen food into available storage.
At the preceding Shabbat gathering, Dr. Elaine Phillips led songs, Scripture memorization, and reflection on the biblical theme of remembering. These activities, together with shared responsibilities and city excursions, reflected the rhythms of community life that accompany study at JUC.
