A Letter From The President
Likely you are already familiar with the vision and ministry of Jerusalem University College. Perhaps you, like thousands of others, are a living testimony to the reality that focused study in the lands of the Bible transforms lives. I imagine that you share the passion most frequently voiced by our alumni, that your JUC experience, or the experience of someone you know, has changed the way that you read the Bible.
Likely it also has helped you better understand God’s work in the Middle East today. You maybe know some of our students and alumni who are actively engaged in the lives of people around the world. With you, we celebrate.
Our teaching methods are tactile, personal, and engaging. Everything we do centers around our mission to help people like you understand the word of God—the Bible—and the Incarnate Word of God—Jesus—better. The success of our programs is proven by our tens of thousands of alumni whose understanding of the Bible has been enhanced greatly because of their investment in Jerusalem University College:
“I see the Bible in living color.”
“I have touched the land of Jesus.”
“Now I understand.”
Or, to paraphrase the words of the Apostle John, you, too, are an eyewitness:
What we have heard, what we have seen with your eyes,
what we have looked at and touched with our hands,
concerning the Word of Life--- (1 John 1:1)
We value your support. I imagine that you would like to see others impacted by the same experience you received. I imagine that you will want to continue to pray for JUC, its students and its staff, and to recommend us to others. Perhaps you have already been able to contribute to our work financially. Thank you!
And thank you for considering ways that you can continue to grow our programs. Your support is invaluable. We have had great success over the past few years in creating new study initiatives, improving our campus and grounds, and growing our scholarship programs. Please know that your gifts strengthen a school that is already flourishing. And with them, we can do even more.
About Rev. Dr. Paul H. Wright
Paul Wright was appointed President of Jerusalem University College in 2010 after serving as Executive Director since 2002. He first joined JUC in full-time appointment as Academic Vice President and Dean in 1997. His first experience at JUC was for short-term studies in 1977, then with his wife Diane as an
M. A. student from 1983-1985.
Paul is also on the adjunct faculty of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute for Theological Studies and lectures regularly for the Israeli Tour Guide Program at the Ben Zvi Institute, Jerusalem.
His published works include several volumes on biblical history and geography with Carta, Jerusalem (Greatness Grace & Glory; Understanding the New Testament; Understanding the Geography of the Bible; Understanding Biblical Archaeology; Understanding Biblical Kingdoms and Empires; Understanding the Ecology of the Bible), as well as the Rose Then-and-Now Bible Map Atlas with Rose Publishing. He believes that teaching, writing, and fieldwork are crafts much like woodworking—which he also enjoys—in that they require a measure of patience, and eye for detail and a willingness to get one’s hands dirty in the process of creating something that is useful for others.
Paul received the Ph.D. in Bible and Ancient Near East from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; the M.A. in Old Testament from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; the M.A. in History of Ancient Israel from Jerusalem University College; and the B.A. from Bethel University. He and his wife Diane have two children and three (and counting) grandchildren.
