Let
us introduce you to our campus in Jerusalem on Mount Zion. One
hundred yards north of the campus you will enter the Old City
through Zion Gate. You will find your way through a maze of narrow
streets to such sites as the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, the
Dome of the Rock, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
When you go on field trips outside the city you
board private coaches across from the room
of the Last Supper. They take you to sites
throughout the land to enjoy the
sights, sounds and smells of the world of the Bible, long ago and
today.
By now
you are beginning to understand what makes Jerusalem University
College literally the only school of its kind in all of Protestant
Christianity. When you come and study with us, you will participate
in very serious academic learning from biblical backgrounds, to
Middle Eastern cultures and languages, to the religions of the
Middle East at an evangelical, accredited, university college, at
either the graduate or undergraduate level, in study programs that
last from weeks to years. "Location" is the key that enables us to
offer you a learning experience that cannot be duplicated anywhere
else in the world. Being here makes all the difference! |
|
To
find the school your best chance is to hop in a taxi cab--sherut
as they are called here--and tell him you need to get to Jaffa
Gate. Once there you can proceed down the stone paved road which
runs along the length of the western wall of the Old City: this
is Aravnah Hayevousi. This road terminates at the gate to
Jerusalem University College. |
|
The sign
underneath the Library windows informs you of your destination at the end of the road. Formerly known as the Institute of Holy Land Studies, Jerusalem University College welcomes you. |
|
Enter the gate and venture around the building and you will find JUC's beautiful and lush gardens.
It's a quiet and secure location on the southeast corner of Mount
Zion. You can't begin to imagine being here, sitting in the
garden with so much biblical history surrounding you. You can
relax and pray and contemplate, while you are overlooking the Valley
of Hinnom.

At the rearmost of the campus lies the Protestant Cemetary on Mt. Zion. It is here that many influential figures have their final resting place. Among those of import are leaders in their field such as Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, one of the founders of Egyptology and the one who began dating archaeological remains by pottery types. |
|
The campus itself has been at the historic grounds and buildings of the Bishop Gobat School, built in 1853, since 1967. The buildings rest atop portions of the Herodian Wall with the site of the Essene Gate at one corner. The Old City walls are just one hundred yards to the north. The campus houses the administrative offices, campus maintenance and classroom facilities as well as dormitories, kitchen and dining room, library, student lounges and historic grounds with a lush garden looking out from Mount Zion over the Hinnom Valley.
